The production of raw aluminium is usually carried out in 3 stages: bauxite mining, alumina preparation, electrolytic aluminum and aluminum ingot casting. Raw aluminum is widely used because of its wide application, and its production is huge, and with the economic development of China, the production of raw aluminum increased from 5.55 million tons in 2003 to 22.6 million tons in 2013.
Although compared with 10 years ago, the energy consumption of raw aluminum production in China dropped by about 16%, and greenhouse gas emissions dropped by about 21%,and achieved remarkable results in environmental protection. But in order to meet the needs of rapid development, there are always things that are contrary to the concept of green development.
The environmental footprint of aluminum production is obvious
Aluminum production is an energy-intensive industry. The aluminum industry consumes more than 5% of the total electricity consumption in the country. At the same time, a large number of air pollutants (such as fluorides, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH)) will be produced in the process of aluminum manufacturing, which seriously destroys the environment and people’s health in the adjacent areas.
Hong Jinglan, Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering College of Shandong University, put forward the production of raw aluminum is more burdened on the environment than alumina and recycled aluminum in environmental research of China’s electrolytic aluminum in the production of recycled aluminum. Raw aluminum production produces 15800 kilograms of greenhouse gas——carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to 21 times that produced by the production of alumina and recycled aluminum together.
If modern means are used to destroy the environment, the consequence will be severe.
The provinces of Shandong and Henan are the largest alumina producers, accounting for 59.28% of the total output. The electrolytic aluminum industry is also densely distributed in these two areas.
Aluminum production will be toxic to fresh water. According to the survey, aluminum production will have an impact on freshwater ecology. A study found that the area with the most toxic potential environmental impact on freshwater ecosystems were Henan, followed by Shandong and Xinjiang.
An aluminum ore mining point in East Chen Zhuang group Pei Ling village, Xin'an county, Henan province, is only mined without backfilling. Big and deep gullies are everywhere, the ecology is damaged severely, and there are large open storage yards and muck materials, and no any environmental protection measures taken and the environment is polluted.
Last year in Shandong, Liaocheng Environmental Protection Bureau found that the average daily carbon dioxide emission concentration of No. 1-3 furnaces of Chiping Xinfa Huayuan Aluminum Co., Ltd. were 607 mg/m3, 475 mg/m3, 401mg/m3, 501 mg/m3, 326 mg/m3, 554 mg/m3 respectively. On April 26, 2016, the daily average of sulfur dioxide emission concentration from furnaces No. 4-5 of the enterprise was 245mg/m3. All of them exceed the sulfur dioxide 200mg/m3 specified in Emission standard of air pollutants in Shandong thermal power plants
The EPA has imposed a fine of 1 million yuan on the enterprise. Guangxi Xinfa Aluminum Power Co., Ltd. was also punished by the Ministry of Environmental Protection for environmental violations of illegal discharge of wastewater in 2015. If you enter the names of several large aluminum enterprises in Shandong on the blue map, it is easy to see their violations of pollution emission from the regulatory records.  
Red mud, as the main solid waste produced in the production of aluminum, has accumulated 610 million tons in the three provinces of Shandong, Shanxi and Henan in 2016. A large amount of red mud will eventually become a landfill, causing severe environmental impacts and burdens. The comprehensive utilization of red mud has become an urgent problem to be solved in the aluminum smelting industry.
Red mud is the waste residue discharged from extracting alumina of aluminum production industry. On average, it produces 1 to 2 tons of red mud for the production of 1 tons of alumina. Because red mud contains a large number of strong base compound, such as fluoride, sodium and aluminum, its pH value is still 11.25-11.50 (the original soil is above 12) after 10 times dilution. The extremely high pH value determines that red mud has strong corrosiveness to biology, metal and siliceous materials.
The high alkalinity sewage infiltrates into the ground or enter surface water, leading to rising pH of water. At the same time, the pH value often affects the toxicity of the compounds in the water, so it will also cause more serious water pollution. It is generally believed that the alkali content of 30-400 mg/L is the suitable range of the public water source, and the alkalinity of the red mud attached liquid is up to 26348mg/L, so the red mud attached liquid of such a high alkalinity enters the water body, its pollution is self-evident.                   
China, as the largest alumina producer in the world, produces as much as tens of millions of tons of red mud every year. In 2014, the East Hoped Sanmenxia Aluminum Co., Ltd. had a few kilometers of red mud pool, which had no related coverage and affected the nearby villages, resulting in the relocation of the whole village.

Recycled aluminum is beneficial to green development
Aluminum production enterprises are also trying to develop the concept of green environmental protection production, however, according to the most commonly used international standardized environmental management and evaluation tools, life cycle evaluation method (LCA), aluminum production enterprise is still one of the main "murderers" of environmental pollution in China.
The emissions of carbon dioxide, dust, sulfur dioxide and nitro compounds account for 3.53%, 1.99%, 3.47%, and 5.34% of the total emission of air pollutants in the country.
Its electricity consumption accounts for 5% of the total electricity in the country, and accounts for 83% of the nonferrous metals industry.
Coupled with astronomical water consumption, raw aluminum producers must have abundant energy resources as strategic safeguards.
If the problem of huge energy consumption is not handled properly, it often means serious environmental pollution. But recycled aluminum seems able to change the image of high pollution and high energy consumption of aluminum production enterprises.
The recycled aluminum not only has the 100% characteristics of the raw aluminum, but also can save 95% of the energy consumption of the raw aluminum production. Data shows that the output of recycled aluminum accounts for 99.43% of the total aluminum in Japan, 89.53% in Italy, 62.35 in the United States, 60.74% in Germany, and only 19.24% in China. It is estimated that the pollution source could be reduced by 11.2% for the increase of 10% in the production of recycled aluminum.  
It is one of the inevitable choices to use recycled aluminum that Aluminum production enterprises take the road of green development. China's aluminum output has ranked first in the world for 16 consecutive years since 2001, and accumulated 230 million tons during that period. There is no doubt that China has always been ahead of the world in the growth rate of aluminum scrap.
China is a large country in the production and consumption of aluminum products. The waste aluminum resources are growing at a rate of more than 20% per year. With the coming of scrapping of a large number of aluminum products, huge waste aluminum resources are waiting for recycling, which provides a rich raw material base for the rapid development of regenerated aluminum in China.
In addition, when re-approving the construction of aluminum manufacturing enterprises, we should consider more innovative factors, such as replacing traditional thermal power generation with clean energy such as hydropower and bio-power generation; applying advanced technologies and processes to reduce waste emissions; and including the status of transportation and logistics, etc. And these will change the current large capacity of China's aluminum production enterprises, large energy consumption, low energy efficiency, large metal losses, serious environmental pollution and other problems that hinder green development. 
It is believed that the future environmental footprint of aluminum will be gradually reduced in the development of recycled aluminum, high efficiency production, strict control of pollution emission and the elimination of backward production capacity. And it will be replaced by the developing way of coexistence of human and nature as the value orientation and the green low-carbon cycle as the main principle.

With the continuous expansion of the use and application of aluminum products, increasingly intensive competition in middle and low end market of aluminum products, more and more aluminum processing enterprises invest more in deep processing and make extension to deeper processing of end products. Aviation aluminum products open up a new blue ocean in application
Aluminum products have been the critical structural material in aviation industry. But in recent years, with the development of technologies, aluminum is also facing the competition from other materials and has a tendency of decrease in the proportion of materials of civil airplane. “Aluminum alloy takes up 61% in the structural material of airplane A380 while that of airplane B787 goes down to 20%. And at the same time, the use of composite material goes up exponentially,” said Hu Yanping on the Forum of Aluminum Deep Processing and she works as the senior engineer of China Aviation Industry Development Research Center at present. 
Even if facing the challenge from other materials, Hu Yanping adds, aluminum alloy is developing continuously too and searching for the new breakthrough of application on airplane engine. For example, Alcoa and PW developed a method of making engine fan blades with aluminum alloy. Besides, there also shows some indication that aluminum including other metals is returning in the design of new airplane. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, the contractor of wings for B787, changes back to aluminum alloy from composite materials in the design of wing’s material of MRJ regional aircraft; A350XWB is not employing composite materials completely but the mixture of advanced metal materials and composite materials.
According to the prediction about global demand for airplane from Boeing, as of 2020, the amount of airplane would increase by 33% to 33000 from the current 24891, as of 2036, the demand for airplane would be 46950 globally and the total increments would be 41030 after taking scrap and replacement into account.
The increase in demand for aircraft would bring up the demand for materials. Antaike predicts that civil airplane market would demand 2.63 million tons of aluminum from 2017 to 2036 in which aluminum products would be 2.24 million tons.
In domestic market, the successful invention of domestic airplane such as C919 has also driven the demand for aviation aluminum products and accessories. As China's aviation industry enters the era of rapid development, demand for aviation aluminum will usher in a substantial expansion.
However, the high-end aluminum products used in the aerospace industry is also the weakness of China's aluminum industry and keeping net import for many years. It is reported that the total mass of aluminum in the C919 accounts for 65% of the total net mass of the aircraft, but aluminum materials are mainly imported from abroad. So the proportion of domestic materials used on the C919 is not large.
In the future, China's C919 trunk airliner, ARJ21 and new series of regional airliners and other aircraft projects are expected to provide 80% of aviation aluminum procurement opportunities to local Chinese companies. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology "Non-ferrous Metal Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)" also clearly stated that it will promote the localization of aviation aluminum, and list the development and application of key grade aluminum materials as the key work plan for 2017, and strive to break through technical barriers to make all the aluminum products made in China.
This undoubtedly provides a good opportunity for the development of China's domestic aviation aluminum. China's high-end aviation aluminum has huge import substitution and development space, but it also increases the urgent sense for Chinese aluminum processing enterprises to develop and produce aviation aluminum alloy. High-end aviation aluminum is still a broad blue ocean in application, waiting for the Chinese aluminum processing enterprise to exploit, and the urgent demand for domestic aviation aluminum is also urgently waiting for Chinese aluminum processing enterprises to step up research and development of high-end aviation aluminum products, improve product quality and enhance supporting production capacity.
The application trend of aluminum alloy in the casing is obvious
In recent years, the consumer market has developed rapidly. He believes that attention should be paid to the new properties, new technologies, new trends and new applications of aluminum materials, expanding the aluminum market and further opening up the channel between technology companies and manufacturers are the problem that needs to be solved in the industry currently.

The Federal Reserveraised interest rates in June which was the second time this year, the US economy continues to grow, and the job market is strong. Although wage growth in May is still unsatisfactory and inflation has fallen, Fed officials seem to be inclined to stick to their plans. The Federal Reserve also announced that it will reduce the size of its public debt and other securities from this year. In fact, compared to raising interest rates, the Federal Reserve’s reduction of balance sheet will directly reduce the currency flowing in the market. If the base currency of 2.5 trillion US dollars is reduced in just a few years, plus the multiplier effect, this "dollar reduction" will undoubtedly lead to huge turmoil in the financial market. At present, the trade of alumina transactions market is light. The alumina enterprise’s inventories and electrolytic aluminum raw material are at a low level. In terms of the transaction, most of the contracts are long-term contracts. The comprehensive cost of alumina is basically around 2,320 RMB/ ton. As a result of high operating rate of electrolytic aluminum and increased operating rate of alumina which was led by the rebound of price, the production of alumina was 5.745 million tons in May, maintained at a high level. However, due to environmental protection and expected reduction in electrolytic aluminum production, alumina prices have always been suppressed by this, and the increase of price will also be limited. The current range of alumina price is 2,500-2,700 RMB / ton and the mainstream transaction price is around 2,620 RMB / ton. We believe as time goes on, especially the approaching of the 19th National Congress, the expectation of environmental protection and electrolytic aluminum’s output reduction has increased, domestic alumina price will be affected by these negative effects, and the selling pressure on the price will gradually increase. In a word, we will keep a view of negative future for the short-term trend of alumina price. It is expected that the domestic alumina price in July will be weak range oscillating.

We believe that the domestic aluminum market is the policy oriented after all. Weiqiao's production reduction of 250,000 tons will not be an ending, maybe it’s just beginning. Baichuan data shows that the current cost of domestic electrolytic aluminum is 13,200 RMB / ton, and the monthly output has reached 3.182 million tons. Production hits record high for several times, showing that the game between the local and the central government is still ongoing. The third quarter is publicity period of illegal production capacity of various regions, and the market will pay more attention. At the same time, the publicity of illegal production capacity and enforcement in Xinjiang will still disturb the market. In the long run, there are no shortcuts for reform, and it is risky to try to de-leverage for enterprise by leveraging on civils sector. And the only way to solve the problem is structural reform of state-owned enterprise. The recent reduction in alumina production has pushed up the production cost of primary aluminum. To control smog, China has required 28 cities to reduce aluminum production during the winter heating period, while China's aluminum production accounts for more than 55% of global production. Environmental pressures and expectations that some electrolytic aluminum will reduce production will weaken the selling pressure of the empty side.From the actual situation of the market, the domestic aluminum stocks bounced back less in the off-season. In particular, the number of large trucks on the road has increased significantly, which may indicate that consumption and intensity are beyond people’s expectations. In our opinion, with the gradual approach of the 19th National Congress , everything is for stability, the core task of the government would be preventing finances and debt from systematic risks. Under the interaction between capacity reduction, environmental protection pressure and increase of expectation of real domestic inflation (good), and corresponding to cycle of strict control in real estate and liquidity tightening (bad), the domestic aluminum market will keep the trend of range oscillating. --Transferred from China non-ferrous metal network

Taking Beijing auto exhibition all-electric small SUV (ARCFOX -1) as an example on the auto show, which it uses is using of aluminum alloy material as the body frame structure and adopts a lot of nonmetal composites outer covering parts to a certain extent reduce the body weight. The first-ever showing household-electric vehicles ES8 from NIO uses the 100% whole aluminum body framework and the motor and battery pack are made by aluminum alloy products as well to keep improving on the light.
"Journey anxiety " has been a bottleneck among development of the electric car vehicle. Many new energy cars which takes part in this fair has obviously improved on the range, to 300 ~ 500 km generally, under the help of lightweight design and lightweight materials.
In the new energy commercial vehicle field, the application of aluminum alloy keeps moving. At the auto show, Suzhou AOJIE auto technology co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as the "AOJIE") has brought five own-designed pure electric logistics vehicle which is able to load from 2 cubic meters to 16 m cubic meters, combines all aluminum body with new energy power, redefines the city new energy logistics vehicle. The 13-cubic-meter light truck logistics vehicle LEV-13 is the first pure electric light truck model in China with an integrated design. The design structure, together with the all-aluminum lightweight body, can achieve a weight reduction of 350kg. This model can meet the needs of transportation from city logistics center to the network point.
It is reported that in the auto show, Aojie Shares signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CRRC City Transportation Co., Ltd. and Shentong Express Co., Ltd. for the application of 5,000 pure electric logistics vehicles.
As an important segment of China's new energy vehicle promotion, electric logistics vehicles have developed rapidly in recent years. According to the recent report of the annual results of 2016 released by China Zhongwang, during the year under reporting, China Zhongwang’s whole external sales volume increased by 3.9% year-over-year to 765,000 tonnes, with the total revenue amounted to approximately RMB 16.7 billion. After adjusted ,the net profit rose by 12.1% yearly to RMB 3.14 billion and adjusted basic earnings per share is around RMB 0.44.
